Narrative Elements in Naeem Al Musafir’s Novels

Abstract

The article focuses on tracking the narrative techniques used by the Iraqi author Na'im Al-Musafir, as well as the methods of constructing events in his novels and the diversity of his style, which reflects his wide and varied culture and his exceptional experience in writing contemporary novels. Therefore, our article titled "Narrative Techniques in the Novels of Na'im Al-Musafir" discusses the structure and form of his artistic style and its evolution from classical to contemporary, and what are the important features and characteristics that distinguish his creations from others. The study aims to identify the narrative techniques that contributed to revealing the suffering of literature that infiltrated the artistic work, such as retrieval, satire, rhythm, the use of spatial setting, linguistic performance, and others. The study is divided into four sections, preceded by an introduction that discusses the development of the Iraqi novel in Arabic literature. The first section is dedicated to discussing the narrator in Na'im Al-Musafir's novels, where the concept of narration is discussed both linguistically and terminologically. The second section focuses on the structure of characters in Na'im Al-Musafir's novels, defining them and discussing their types, as well as their description, presentation, and function. The third section examines time in Na'im Al-Musafir's novels, presenting the concept of time and the divisions of narrative time, such as discussing the available time techniques in his novels, such as retrieval and anticipation. The fourth section discusses the setting in Na'im Al-Musafir's novels, the types of settings, and their relationship to characters and events in his novels.The conclusion connects the chapters of the study together and summarizes its results, highlighting the main findings.
