Common Thinking Strategies pre-familiarized among Arabic-Majored Undergraduates following Herrmann’s Scale
Abstract
This paper aims at realizing common thinking strategies pre-familiar by Arabic-majored undergraduates following Herrmann’s scale. To do so, a 288-undergraduate sample was chosen for analysis, combining 140 males and 148 females, officially registered in the 2021-2022 academic intake. The researcher designed an 8-item scale which further included action contexts, each item has four (A, B, C, D) sub-items to choose from. These sub-items are logical, systematic, social, innovative) respectively. The designed scale has been verified psychometrically in order to be test-wise valid. Functional approach was adopted in this study, and following SPSS-based statistical analyses, the paper finds that;
-Highest thinking strategies are ranked common from social, systematic, innovative, to logical.
-No statistically significant differences have been noticed in logical and innovative sub-items due to gender variable.
-Statistically significant differences have been noticed in social sub-items by females
- Certain statistically significant differences have been noticed in social sub-items by females.
- Certain statistically significant differences have been noticed in systematic sub-items by males.
The paper, accordingly, proposes;
-Undergraduates need to be trained on various thinking strategies, as these are strongly needed on campus and in public situations.
- Syllabus and curriculum items should accommodate different thinking strategies and styles, this will help develop thinking among undergraduates
-Further studies should be made on other undergraduate-used thinking styles.
The paper, additionally, suggests;
-A comparison between Arabic-majored undergraduates and undergraduates enrolled in other majors as to the most common thinking styles.
-Linking thinking strategies to the undergraduate-focused millennia-era skills.
-Relating thinking strategies to undergraduate-received education styles.
