Legal Protection of Children's rights against Exploitation by their Families in the Digital Age

Abstract

This study aimed to shed light on a type of exploitation that has emerged because of modern technological advancements: the exploitation of children by their parents in the digital age. The research addresses the definition of this exploitation, its most prominent forms, and its psychological and legal consequences. It clarifies how this exploitation affects children, whether the aim is material or moral, and how it sometimes occurs without parents being aware of its harmful effects.

The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach to clarify the concept and manifestations of child exploitation by parents on social media platforms. Additionally, a comparative approach was used to compare the legislation of the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding child protection laws. Finally, the study reached a set of conclusions, followed by a set of recommendations. Among the most important findings are:

• Exploiting children on social media constitutes a form of economic exploitation. Especially if it negatively impacts a child's academic performance or their physical and mental health.
• Moral and social exploitation is no less dangerous than economic exploitation.
